February 16 at Zion Lutheran Church at 7:30 PM Town of Cobleskill Historical Society visit with MICHAEL WEST and a few of his documents. You will be able to pick them up and read them and the story behind them—the documents are from all over, from 1200's, 1400's, aviation, presidential, those pertaining to our county, you name it. Bring a friend.
February 20, 3:00 PM Winter Respite Lecture Series Sunday in the Hobart Community Center: HOBART—100 YEARS AGO by Jim Meagley, a look back at Hobart around 1910, including the US Federal census and an interesting booklet (28 pages) published by the Hobart Civic Association during that time to promote the benefits of visiting Hobart via railroad.
Wednesday, March 9, 7:30 PM at the Carlisle Town Hall. Professor Kevin Berner, SUNY Cobleskill, will do a program on BLUEBIRDS, a favorite bird of Schoharie County and Carlisle in particular. Get ready for the Spring Migration and bluebird nesting season by learning about the beloved bluebird. All of our events are open to the public, so bring a friend. Delicious Goodies are served.
Wednesday, March 16, 7:00 PM at the Gilboa Town Hall. THE PALATINES were among the first Europeans to settle in the Schoharie Valley, and many of their descendants can still be found in the area. The first group of 55 souls arrived in America in 1708, followed in 1710 by a much larger contingent of 4,000. But just who were the Palatines? Where did they come from? What would drive such a huge number of people leave their homeland and risk the unknown? On March 16, Carol Cassidy will tell of the trials and tribulations of the Palatines, from their Germanic origins to their adventures in the American Colonies.

Saturday, May 7 6:45 AM at the Carlisle Town Hall parking lot 4th Annual Carlisle Historical Society BIRD WALK with Chris Keefer. The birds have arrived, and what better way to welcome them than with an early morning tour of all the best viewing locales in Carlisle? See the vast array of songbirds, raptors and wetland birds that choose Carlisle as their Summer Vacation Destination. We meet at 6:45 am at the Carlisle Town Hall parking lot, grab a hot drink, and set off in our vehicles (carpooling encouraged) to several great birding spots. We will end back at the town hall around 10 am for more hot drinks and snacks. This event takes place rain or shine (the birds don’t care), so dress appropriately and bring your binoculars, scopes and bird ID books. In last year’s less than ideal conditions, we saw/heard 42 different birds…Saturday, May 7, 6:45 am at the Carlisle Town Hall. All of our events are open to the public, so bring a friend. The second elected woman in New York State, Blanche Hunter was elected the County Clerk in 1919. Find out about this remarkable woman. All of our events are open to the public, so bring a friend. Saturday, July 9 from 10 AM to 4 PM.The Greene County Historical Society will hold its 35th annual TOUR OF HOMES in the Town of New Baltimore Each year, this popular tour highlights the architectural and historical assets of a different town or area in Greene County. Last year's tour focused on the hamlets of Windham, Hensonville and Maplecrest in the mountains. This year, with the help of the New Baltimore Conservancy, we move to the Town of New Baltimore for the town's bicentennial year. Tour sites will be located in the historic riverside hamlet of New Baltimore and extend into the extensive farm areas west and south of the hamlet. More information about specific sites will be available as the tour date approaches. The tour will be held rain or shine. Tickets are $25 the day of the tour; $20 in advance.
